Experiential & Service Learning
When students visit our farms they engage in local agriculture while exploring the unique environment of the Texas Gulf Coast. In addition, your students will come away from their PIF experience with a better understanding of who a refugee is and how new American families serve Houston.
We prefer to work with students ages 5th grade through college. Our professional staff will work with you to craft a service learning experience that fits the needs of your students and your curriculum. Depending on your interests, our team can lead sessions on topics ranging from the science of how plants grow to the politics that shape our food system.
Adopt-A-Farm
Support local agriculture! This $5,000+ sponsorship opportunity is perfect for groups and individuals who are passionate about building community through urban agriculture. As an Adopt-A-Farm sponsor, you will enable us build and maintain working farms that are treasured community amenities for all in Houston. Please contact us for details.
Volunteer
We invite you to take part in building a healthy, green, and inclusive Houston by volunteering with Plant it Forward!
Everyone is welcome to participate in Community Work Days. Attending a Volunteer Orientation is not required to participate. During these open community events, you’ll help a PIF Farmer with whatever they need on the farm (usually lots of weeding and mulching!). Community Work Days are hosted by our staff. See the calendar below for details about upcoming dates and locations.
Looking for other volunteer opportunities? We currently need help in the following areas:
- Event Volunteer: Rep PIF at a community event or help us put on special events like cooking classes.
- Farm Share Community Builder: Greet and share information with your fellow farm share members at the weekly pickups.
- Food Hub Assistant: Help our team get produce packed and ready for delivery on Tuesday-Friday.
- Special Projects: Help us with office tasks and projects on an as-needed basis.
