Farming Education Multimedia Intern
Position Summary
We are currently developing a website that will serve as a practical resource hub for farmers in the PIF network. This site will feature educational tools, training guides, and directories to support success in farming and farm business management. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented summer intern to support the development of training resources and website content. The intern will help identify, adapt, and coordinate translation of practical materials for use by farmers, with a focus on accessibility and language inclusivity.
Scope of Work & Responsibilities
Over the course of this one-month project, the intern will:
- Identify and adapt multimedia resources:
- Source 5 existing instructional videos relevant to beginning farmers (e.g., farming techniques, tool use, production methods).
- Secure permission for use, if necessary.
- Adapt videos by adding closed captions and/or translated voice-overs in at least two languages commonly spoken by our farmers (Swahili & French).
- Coordinate translation efforts:
- Work directly with Plant It Forward’s existing translator partners to ensure timely and accurate translation of both video and written materials.
- Help manage timelines and file delivery for captioning and translated versions.
- Curate and develop practical farming resources:
- Collect and/or finalize 10 additional resources (e.g., translated guides from Extension Services, building plans, list of service providers, etc.) for inclusion on the website.
- Support finalization of an agricultural supplier list, business plan, and crop planting guide for small-scale specialty crop producers.
- Collaborate with staff and stakeholders:
- Ensure all resources are accurate, relevant, and culturally appropriate.
- Communicate with staff to assess resource needs and identify language access priorities.
Qualifications
- Background or hands-on experience in agriculture, sustainable farming, or related fields
- Experience with content adaptation or media editing (e.g., captions/voiceovers)
- Strong research and communication skills
- Experience coordinating with translators or working in multilingual/multicultural settings is a plus
- Self-motivated and organized; able to meet weekly goals with minimal supervision

Duration: 4 weeks (Part-Time, 20 hours/week)
Compensation: $20/hour

Farm Programs Intern
Position Summary
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Farm Programs Intern to support key programmatic activities related to farmer education, event coordination, and fieldwork. This internship offers hands-on experience in sustainable agriculture programming and includes the exciting opportunity to attend the 2025 Southern Family Farmers & Food Systems (SFFFS) Conference as a professional development benefit.
Key Responsibilities
- Conference Support:
- Coordinate farmer scholarships and attendance logistics for the SFFFS Conference including outreach, registration, travel arrangements, and follow-up.
- Assist with planning and logistical support for Plant It Forward’s New American Farmer Conference including coordination with presenters, vendors, and participants.
- Program Planning & Implementation:
- Support the development and launch of Apprentice Cohort 2 including outreach, scheduling, and participant support.
- Work with the Farm Team to create customized crop planning boards for four farms: Shamba Ya Amani and three incubator sites, plus a practice board for internal use.
- Field Support:
- Assist in on-the-ground activities for incubator farm start-up efforts, as directed by the Farm Team. Tasks may include planting, soil prep, infrastructure setup, and more.
Qualifications
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Interest in sustainable agriculture, food systems, or nonprofit program work
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Willingness to engage in hands-on field work
- The job may require lifting up to 40 lbs and occasionally working in the food hub and the farms
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
